Phillies' shortstop Jimmy Rollins was the hero in Philly on Monday as the Phillies came back in the ninth to beat the Dodgers 5-4. Rollins hit a two-run double with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to give the Phillies the win and a 3-1 series lead.

Our View:

It looked like the Phils were done tonight, but Rollins will live on forever after his walk-off winner off Dodgers' closer Jonathan Broxton. The Phils are clicking on all cylinders, and they look poised to head back to the World Series for the second straight season.

September 27, 2009

Jimmy Rollins carried the Phillies to a 6-5 win over the Brewers on Sunday with a 3-for-5 performance that included his 21st home run of the season.

Our View:

Rollins has struggled this season with just a .247 average, but he did reach the 20-homer/30-stolen base plateau for the third time in his career.

September 24, 2009

Jimmy Rollins led the way for the Phillies on Thursday as they pounded the Brewers by a score of 9-4. Rollins went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored, and three RBI.

Our View:

J-Roll continues his smoking hot second half, and he looks to be ready for the postseason. The Phils are still battling for home-field advantage, so they need every win they can get.

September 18, 2009

Jimmy Rollins helped lead the Phillies in tonight's 9-4 win at Atlanta, as he went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer off Vladimir Nunez.

Our View:

Rollins has a hit in four straight games, with five RBI over the span. He hit his second homer of September, and needs one more to reach 20 for the season.

September 17, 2009

Jimmy Rollins went 2-for-4 with his 67th RBI and 29th steal on Thursday, as Cole Hamels and the Phillies shut-down the Nationals 4-2 at home.

Our View:

Rollins is now batting .271 since the All-Star break, after hitting just .229 before it.

September 2, 2009

Jimmy Rollins went 2-for-4 on Wednesday and was the only Phillie to record multiple hits in the 4-0 loss to the Giants.

Our View:

Rollins had ten multi-hit games in August and has rolled right into September with another one in Wednesday's game. He's been disappointing this season overall, but has been worth playing since June 1st.

August 27, 2009

Jimmy Rollins went 3-for-5 with a stolen base on Thursday, but couldn't propel the Phils past the Bucs, as Philadelphia lost 3-2 in Pittsburgh.

Our View:

Rollins' first-half struggles are but a distant memory, as the elite shortstop has posted a .282 post All-Star average to go along with ten home runs and nine steals.

August 25, 2009

Jimmy Rollins stayed smoking hot on Tuesday, as he homered twice in the Phillies' 6-4 loss to the Pirates. Rollins went 2-for-5 with the homers, two runs scored, and two RBI in the game.

Our View:

J-Roll has just killed the ball in the second half, and it doesn't look like he will be slowing down any time soon. He contributes something to fantasy owners nearly every night, and he should continue to do so for the rest of the season, even if he can't keep up this pace.

August 24, 2009

Jimmy Rollins is getting the day off on Monday, according to the Twitter page of beat writer Todd Zolecki. Eric Bruntlett will start in place of Rollins at shortstop.

Our View:

Rollins is just getting the day off, and it looks like the team is giving Sunday's triple play hero a chance to start. J-Roll has been on a tear in the second half, and he is really starting to pay dividends for those who drafted him.

August 21, 2009

Jimmy Rollins was 2-for-5 with a stolen base in the Phillies' 4-2 loss to the Mets on Friday.

Our View:

Rollins continued his second half surge with another multi-hit game Friday. He's now hitting just below .300 for the month with five homers.

August 12, 2009

Jimmy Rollins hit the first of two Phillie three run bombs in the fourth inning on Wednesday night, as the Phils easily bested the Cubs 12-5 at Wrigley Field.

Our View:

At .246, Rollins' average is now as high as it has been all season (save for opening day), and he is again producing like one of the game's top shortstops.

August 6, 2009

Jimmy Rollins continued his second half resurgence on Thursday, going 3-for-4 and needing just the long ball to complete the cycle. He scored two of the Phillies three runs as they dispatched the Rockies 3-1 behind Cliff Lee.

Our View:

Rollins now has a 12 game hitting streak and has upped his average from .205 to .245 since the beginning of July. During his hit streak he's also belted five homers and driven in 13.

August 4, 2009

Jimmy Rollins went 2-for-5 with a home run, a run scored, and two RBI in the Phillies' 8-3 loss to the Rockies. Rollins now has 12 homers on the season.

Our View:

Rollins is starting to pick it up at the plate as of late, and he is finally starting to pull his weight for fantasy owners. If he keeps hitting, the Phillies could be even more dangerous down the stretch this season.

August 2, 2009

Jimmy Rollins was 2-for-4 with a solo home run in the Phillies' 7-3 loss to the Giants on Sunday.

Our View:

Rollins now has 11 homers on the season, but is still just hitting a measly .239. His performance this year, although better lately, still has to be considered a fantasy disappointment.

July 25, 2009

Jimmy Rollins hit a go-ahead grand slam and tied a career high with five RBI in the Phillies 14-6 drubbing of the Cardinals on Saturday. He finished the day 2-for-5

Our View:

Rollins is hitting just .237 this season, but is hitting .340 in July. He's also been racking up the RBI lately with 16 already this month.

July 21, 2009

Jimmy Rollins' home run on Tuesday made if three straight games with an RBI for the superstar shortstop, and his two hits marked the the ninth time this month he's had a multiple hit game.

Our View:

Rollins has upped his average from .205 on July 1 to .238, and has hit safely in every game this month but two.

July 19, 2009

Jimmy Rollins went 3-for-5 with an RBI on Sunday, as the Phillies beat the Marlins 5-0 to earn their eighth straight victory.

Our View:

After his horrid start to the season, and many false slump breakouts, Rollins has now hit safely in 13 of the Phillies 15 games this month, and raised his average 31 points in the process. It looks as if finally, for real this time, he has shaken his prolonged slump.

July 7, 2009

One day after going 3-for-4 with four runs scored, Jimmy Rollins was back to his struggling ways on Tuesday, going 1-for-5 with two strikeouts as the Phillies lost 4-3 to the Reds.

Our View:

Rollins' 2009 is simply a lost season. It's impossible to predict when, if ever, he'll break out, and you could be best served by exploring alternate options to the former MVP.

July 4, 2009

Jimmy Rollins reached base three times and drove in two runs on Saturday, as the Phillies beat the Mets 4-1 in Philadelphia.

Our View:

Rollins is still having a miserable 2009 season, and has shown signs of emerging from his slump before, only to struggle even more. Until he puts together seven or eight good games in a ten game stretch, he cannot be declared out of his slump and good to start every day.

July 2, 2009

Jimmy Rollins went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles in tonight's 5-2 loss at Atlanta.

Our View:

Rollins finally had a solid outing, as he was hitless over his previous seven games (27 at-bats). He has been among the most disappointing fantasy players of 2009, as he holds an anemic .209 batting average.

July 1, 2009

Jimmy Rollins went hitless for the seventh straight game on Wednesday as the Phillies got blown out 11-1 by Atlanta.

Our View:

Rollins' miserable 2009 continues, as the former MVP is now batting just .205 through 70 starts. It is reasonable to believe he will turn it around at some point, but if you have an extra shortstop, you should bench Rollins until he proves he has shook his awful beginning.

June 30, 2009

Jimmy Rollins is set to return to the Phillies' lineup tonight after sitting out the last four games, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:

He is stuck in an 0-for-19 slump and was riding the pine to get away and clear his head. He will bat leadoff tonight against the Braves, and hopefully he will get back on the right track.

June 28, 2009

According to the Globe and Mail, Jimmy Rollins, mired in the worst slump of his career, will remain on the bench until Tuesday.

Our View:

Rollins is 0 for his last 19 and even though the team has said he won't lose his leadoff job, they can't go on with him the way he's currently producing. Owners should keep him on the bench until he re-proves his worth.

June 26, 2009

Jimmy Rollins will still be the Phillies leadoff hitter when he returns from his day two benching designed to break his slump, according to the Philadelphia Daily News.

Our View:

Rollins has been mired in the worst slump of his career for most of 2009. If the Phils latest tactic to pull him out of it doesn't work, they may have to consider dropping him in the order for good.

June 25, 2009

Jimmy Rollins will not be in the lineup tonight or tomorrow, according to the Associated Press, as manager Charlie Manuel wants him to "sit and watch and relax."

Our View:

He could apparently be out a few more games after that even. He is not hurt, just slumping mightily. He is hitless in his last 19 at-bats, and batting just .211 with six homers and 27 RBIs in 68 games this season.

June 18, 2009

Jimmy Rollins hit his second home run in four games and collected three hits on Thursday, but it wasn't enough as the Phillies fell 8-7 to the Blue Jays.

Our View:

Rollins has finally begun to show signs of consistent offensive production the last two weeks after beginning the season with one of the worst slumps of his career. If you have been benching him, it might be time to being reinserting him into your starting lineup.

June 10, 2009

Phillies beat writer Todd Zolecki reports on his Twitter page that shortstop Jimmy Rollins will be back in the leadoff spot when the Phillies play the Mets on Wednesday night. Rollins had been hitting sixth for the past two games.

Our View:

Rollins went 5-for-8 during those two games, so it appears manager Charlie Manuel's ploy may have worked. Rollins is still batting just .230 for the season, however.

June 8, 2009

The Philadelphia Inquirer is reporting that Phillies' shortstop Jimmy Rollins discovered a glitch in his swing while studying video over the weekend. Rollins has been struggling all season, but he feels like he is popping the ball up because of the mechanical flaw.

Our View:

Rollins seems confident that he has solved his problem, but it remains to be seen how long it will take him to get his swing back. He said that his swing is flat, which is causing him to pop everything up. Rollins owners are hoping for any good news at this point, so don't lose confidence in J-Roll just yet.

June 6, 2009

According to Phillies' beat writer Todd Zolecki, Jimmy Rollins is not in the lineup on Saturday.

Our View:

Rollins will be replaced by Eric Bruntlett. He's hitting seventh. No word as to why Rollins is out. It's likely just an off day.

May 22, 2009

Jimmy Rollins was 2-for-4 with a home run, a stolen base, an RBI, a run scored, and a walk in Friday's 7-3 game.

Our View:

Rollins has hits in ten of his last eleven games and he has 17 hits in that stretch. He seems to have put his slump behind him and should be a strong play going forward.

May 17, 2009

Jimmy Rollins went 2-for-5 with a run scored, and an RBI in Sunday's 8-6 win over the Nationals. He was 1-for-2 on his stolen base attempts.

Our View:

Rollins has six hits in his last three games and at least one hit in each of his last seven. Perhaps even better news is that he has attempted seven steals in those games. Then again, he has been caught four times.

May 12, 2009

In a move to try to get him out of his season-long slump, Phillies' manager Jerry Manuel is hitting Jimmy Rollins fifth in Tuesday's game.

Our View:

Manuel tried this earlier this season, so we will see if it works this time. Rollins has been unspeakably bad so far this season, so any kind of shake-up can't be a bad thing. It may be a good time to buy low on Rollins if you think he is going to turn it around.

May 2, 2009

Manager Jerry Manuel will try something new on Saturday. Shortstop Jimmy Rollins is listed as the No. 5 hitter behind Ryan Howard. Rollins is hitting .198 on the season.

Our View:

The media will surely ask Manuel about the change, and we'll then know if this move is permanent or just a one-day shake-up. We're guessing it's just a short-term move to try to spark Rollins.

April 28, 2009

Jimmy Rollins predicts a big May and intends to hit .400 in the month, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. Rollins said, "I felt good, ready to rock and roll."

Our View:

Rollins is currently stuck in a slump, as he is hitting .192 over 72 at-bats. This is encouraging news that he is confident that he will break out and get on track soon.

April 26, 2009

Shortstop Jimmy Rollins is not in the lineup for Sunday's tilt against the Marlins, the Miami Herald notes. Eric Bruntlett will start in his place and hit second.

Our View:

Rollins is hitting .162 with zero steals thus far, and we figure he is simply getting a day off. Maybe he can use the time to watch 2006 tape of himself.

April 19, 2009

Jimmy Rollins did not start for Philadelphia for the first time this season but actually logged his best fantasy performance of the year, belting a pinch-hit home run off San Diego's Edward Mujica in the eighth inning.

Our View:

Rollins has been struggling mightily out of the gates this season but remains a guy that you'd be ill advised to sell low on; hopefully his first home run of the year can jump-start his production.

April 16, 2009

Jimmy Rollins went 0-for-3 against Washington on Thursday, dipping his batting average to .111 on the season.

Our View:

Rollins did muster an RBI off a sacrifice fly, but with just three RBI, two runs and zero stolen bases on the season, fantasy owners have to be a bit worried that his down year in 2008 was no fluke. Still, his BABIP is abnormally low at sub-.150, so you have to assume his luck will start to even out and that he'll start getting back on base like he's been able to in the past.

March 30, 2009

Jimmy Rollins was 2-for-4 with a solo home run, and RBI, and two runs scored in Monday's 13-3 win over Houston.

Our View:

Rollins looks to be doing just fine against major league pitching after his long stint with Team USA in the WBC. He should be in line for a very good year and is still considered among the Top 3 players at his position.

March 22, 2009

Jimmy Rollins went 4-for-4 with a triple, a walk, a stolen base, and a run scored as Team USA fell to Japan 9-4 on Sunday. He played the whole game at DH while Derek Jeter manned shortstop.

Our View:

Rollins has had an all-around excellent tournament and should be in line for a hot start to the season. As long as he can avoid the nagging injuries that plagued him last season, he could challenge the best at his position in fantasy in 2009.

March 17, 2009

Jimmy Rollins was 0-for-2 in Team USA's walk-off win Tuesday, but he wreaked havoc on the base paths drawing two walks, swiping two bases and scoring a run.

Our View:

Even though he went hitless in the contest, Rollins is still batting .333 in the WBC and seems poised to step up his game after what was considered a down year for him last season following his MVP campaign.

March 15, 2009

Jimmy Rollins was 2-for-4 with a triple, a home run, four RBI, and two runs scored as Team USA defeated the Netherlands 9-3 on Sunday. He played all nine innings at shortstop.

Our View:

With Jeter DH-ing, Rollins was able to get a full game under his belt, and it clearly paid off for his team. He noted earlier this spring that he played most of last season with back pain, but he is healthy and ready to perform in 2009. Given the dearth of talented offensive shortstops, look for Rollins' name to come off the draft boards early.

March 4, 2009

MLB.com reports that Jimmy Rollins has been dealing with backpain since late last season. He played all nine innings for Team USA on Wednesday.

Our View:

Rollins' numbers dropped off last season, but he still managed 47 steals. He feels fine enough to play full-time in the World Baseball Classic so don't expect him to land on the DL any time soon. There's a chance he does take more days of rest this season.

March 4, 2009

Jimmy Rollins doubled and drove two runs for Team USA in Wednesday's loss to the Blue Jays. He was 1-for-5 on the day.

Our View:

Rollins' overall numbers from his MVP season aren't likely to return, but he's great for runs and steals and should still be a top-5 fantasy shortstop.

February 26, 2009

Jimmy Rollins went 1-for-3 with an RBI single in Thursday's 6-2 loss to the Blue Jays.

Our View:

Rollins is worth drafting as a top-3 fantasy shortstop, and should namely be a strong source for runs and stolen bases.
