Mike Lowell was scratched from the Red Sox's lineup on Sunday with a sore right thumb. Lowell could have played, but the team decided another day of rest would be more beneficial.
Our View:
Lowell was in the lineup originally, but manager Terry Francona talked him out of the lineup. The team wants Lowell to be healthy for the postseason, so it was a good move to keep him out today.

The plan is for Lowell to rest for a few days, with the intention of taking some at-bats before the start of the playoffs. He missed the ALCS last season and underwent offseason surgery on his right hip.
