Newsbreakers

June 18, 2009

Orlando Cabrera was productive in Thursday's 3-2 loss at Los Angeles, as he went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles.

Our View:

The A's only mustered seven hits in the game. Cabrera was in need of a solid outing at the plate, as he was hitting a dismal .207 in June heading into tonight's game.

June 15, 2009

Orlando Cabrera was dropped from the leadoff spot to seventh in the order on Sunday. Cabrera is hitting just .232 with a .280 OBP.

Our View:

The club is hoping that Cabrera will start to see more run producing opportunities that will wake up his bat. The 34-year-old has been a disappointment since joining Oakland. He has a career .272 average.

June 7, 2009

According to ESPN.com, the Red Sox have shown interest in Orlando Cabrera and have been in contact with the A's.

Our View:

Cabrera signed a one-year $4 million extension this past offseason and hasn't really been earning his paycheck. The shortstop is hitting just .235, but the Red Sox seem desperate for a change at short. They have also been rumored to be interested in Jack Wilson.

June 6, 2009

Orlando Cabrera knocked three hits on Saturday in the A's 9-4 rout of the Orioles. Cabrera had two doubles, two runs scored, and two RBI in the game.

Our View:

OC is still having a very disappointing season, but he showed tonight that he can still hit. His average is at .235, and with his lack of power he still has very little fantasy value. If there is any other option out there, you should not own Cabrera at this point.

May 26, 2009

Orlando Cabrera went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI in the A's 4-3 win over the Mariners on Tuesday.

Our View:

Cabrera has been a major disappointment for the A's this season. He is not hitting the ball like he used to, and he has no power to speak of. He should not be owned in any leagues until he shows he can hit with some consistency.
