The New York Daily News is reporting that the Mets are likely to re-sign infielder Alex Cora for 2010. Cora is currently out for the season with a thumb ligament injury.
The Mets seem to like Cora as a backup middle infielder, so expect him to be back with the team next season. He won't be a starter if the team is healthy, and he won't be a fantasy candidate even if he does find himself with considerable playing time if someone goes down.
TSN.com reports that Mets' shortstop Alex Cora has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with injuries to both thumbs.
Sounds like an angry bookie got a hold of Cora. He will have two surgeries to repair ligament damage on both thumbs. The right will go first and then after a five week break he'll have the left one repaired. Cora played through the pain for 82 games and deserves credit for sticking it out.
Alex Cora will undergo season-ending surgeries to repair torn ligaments in both thumbs, according to the New York Daily News.
The Mets continue to have bad luck with injuries this season. Cora hit .251 with one homer and 18 RBI over 271 at-bats.
Mets manager Jerry Manuel says Alex Cora could land on the disabled list with an undisclosed hand injury, according to the New York Post's Bart Hubbuch.
It doesn't even seem like it would be scientifically possible for the Mets to lose another player to the disabled list this season, but here we are. Maybe Cora's hand will miraculously get better and he can avoid the DL, but more likely is that it will only get worse.
Alex Cora provided the only offense the Mets could muster on Saturday. He went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in the 3-1 loss to the Padres.
The homer was the first of the season for Cora and he doesn't have the numbers across the board to be considered fantasy relevant.
Alex Cora has aggravated the torn ligament in his left thumb Tuesday night while taking a relay throw from outfielder Jeff Francoeur, according to the New York Post.
Cora is not in tonight's lineup at Washington, and is considered day-to-day.
Alex Cora had his first three hit game since June 16 on Saturday, but he was the only Met hitting, as the Amazins lost 4-1 to the Phillies in Philadelphia.
Cora has played admirably in Jose Reyes' absence, but has no home runs, and is not an option at shortstop in any format.
Alex Cora went 2-for-4 with two RBI in Monday's 6-4 win over the Cardinals at Citi Field. He also drew one walk.
Cora extended his hitting streak to seven games, and snapped a four-game skid without an RBI tonight. He is hitting well right now, but does not offer enough to fantasy owners to employ outside of deeper leagues.
Infielder Alex Cora was in the Mets lineup for the first time since May 17 on Thursday and finished the day 1-for-5 with an RBI.
Although Cora is batting .321 in 27 games this season, his limited power and speed preclude from being a viable fantasy option in almost every format.
As expected, the Mets activated infielder Alex Cora from the 15-day DL today according to The Sports Network.
Cora's return should give the Mets injury depleted lineup a boost. However, he is still not a viable fantasy option.
Alex Cora is expected to be activated from the DL on Tuesday, according to the New York Post. Cora has been out with a torn ligament in his right thumb.
Cora may see some time at short until Jose Reyes returns on Friday, but overall he has no fantasy value. He should not be owned in any league, unless you are desperate for a shortstop this week. Even then, there are better options.
According to the New York Daily News, Alex Cora will have a three game rehab stint (thumb) with Triple-A Buffalo before joining the Mets next week.
Cora decided to delay surgery and will only be available part time when he does return. Fantasy owners, steer clear.
According to the New York Daily News, Alex Cora has decided not to undergo surgery on his thumb and will return to the team when his DL stint is up on June 2nd.
Cora will be limited to part time duty without the surgery, but he's not a caliber player that the Mets would play every day anyway. He'll make spot starts and come off the bench. Fantasy owners should steer clear.
Alex Cora is considering surgery on the torn ligament in his right thumb, according to the New York Post.
He felt fine, and was surprised to hear he had a torn ligament. Surgery would place him on the shelf for at least two months.
MetsBlog.com is reporting that the Mets have placed Alex Cora on the 15-day DL with a strained ligament in his right thumb.
Cora had been filling in at short for the injured Jose Reyes, but now he is down as well. His fantasy value was very limited before the injury, and it will be when he returns as well.
The New York Post reports that Alex Cora left Sunday's game after injuring his thumb in the third inning while sliding into second base. He was replaced at shortstop by Fernando Tatis.
Cora was filling in for the injured Jose Reyes (calf tendinitis) and he is the Mets primary backup for Luis Castillo at second base. He was hitting .333 at the time of the injury but does not see enough regular playing time to be fantasy relevant.
Alex Cora will start at second base again on Wednesday against the Marlins. Luis Castillo (back) remains out of the lineup.
Cora had a nice 2-for-4, two-run effort on Tuesday, but it could be a very different story against Josh Johnson on Wednesday.
Alex Cora has signed a one-year deal with the New York Mets, according to the Associated Press. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Cora will be in a utility role and will probably see more time at second than at shortstop. He is a lifetime .245 hitter and only has real value if there are injuries in front of him.
The Mets have inked Alex Cora to a one-year, $2 million deal, according to WEEI.com.
Cora will be used in a utility role in New York but should get plenty of playing time at second with the aging and underwhelming Luis Castillo still the de facto starter there.
