As expected, Placido Polanco has signed a three-year, $18 million contract to play third base for the Phillies, according to the Detroit Free Press. The sides hold a mutual option for a fourth year.
The deal is a somewhat risky one for the Phillies, as Polanco, age 34, has seen both his on-base percentage and slugging percentage take steep declines each of the past two seasons. He can still rake, as evidenced by his 354 hits the past two years, but could really be beginning to slow down. Regardless, he is a big offensive upgrade over Pedro Feliz.
