TSN is reporting that the Phillies have purchased the contract of catcher Paul Bako from Double-A Reading. Bako was hitting .357 with ten RBI in just ten games at the Double-A level.

Our View:

Bako was really hitting well in Double-A, which prompted the call-up. He holds no fantasy value, as he will be the third string catcher behind Carlos Ruiz and Chris Coste.

Philly.com is reporting that the Phillies have signed free agent catcher Paul Bako to a minor league deal. Bako was released by the Cubs earlier this season.

Our View:

Bako is expected to report to extended spring training first and then progress through the minor league system as he gets back into baseball shape. No fantasy impact here, as it is unlikely he will get much play in Philly this season.

March 30, 2009

Paul Bako has been released by the Cubs.

Our View:

Bako would not have held much fantasy value in Chicago while backing up Geovany Soto behind the plate. It appears that Koyie Hill will hold the No. 2 role now.

January 30, 2009

Paul Bako has agreed to terms on a one-year, $725,000 deal with the Cubs, according to MLB.com.

Our View:

Bako will provide veteran depth behind rising star Geovany Soto behind the plate, but won't hold much fantasy value, barring injuries.

January 28, 2009

The Cubs are expected to sign catcher Paul Bako, according to Bruce Levine of ESPN Radio. His deal will reportedly be for one-year at $750,000.

Our View:
