Newsbreakers

November 1, 2009

Jorge Posada was 1-for-3 with a walk and three RBI as the Yankees beat the Phillies 7-4 on Sunday. He also struck out twice in the game.

Our View:

Posada only has three hits in the series, but four RBI. The catcher clearly benefits from batting behind a number of big bats in the Yankee lineup.

October 19, 2009

Jorge Posada hit a big game-tying home run in the eighth inning on Monday, but the Yankees still ended up falling in extras to the Angels. Posada was 2-for-4 on the game with the solo shot.

Our View:

The homer by Posada looked to give the Yanks the momentum late in the game, but the Angels clawed back to cut the New York lead in the series to 2-1. Posada figures to remain behind the plate unless AJ Burnett is on the mound for the rest of the series.

October 17, 2009

Jose Molina will "definitely" catch A.J. Burnett in game two of the ALCS on Saturday, according to the New York Post's Joel Sherman.

Our View:

Somewhere Jorge Posada fumes. Beyond taking Posada's bat out of the lineup and appeasing Burnett, this also means the Angels might not be able to run all over the base-paths tonight.

October 11, 2009

After sitting out Game 2 of the series, Jorge Posada returned with some thunder in his bat on Sunday. The catcher was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI as the Yankees eliminated the Twins with a 4-1 win in Minnesota.

Our View:

Posada was not too excited about being benched in Game 2, but it's clear his sulking did not translate at the plate. In 26 at-bats against the Angels this season he hit .308 with three home runs and 10 RBI.

October 8, 2009

The New York Post is reporting that Yankees' Game 2 starter A.J. Burnett is denying a report that he requested Jose Molina catch him instead of starter Jorge Posada. "It's something that Skip made the decision on and I had no part in," Burnett said on Wednesday.

Our View:

It has been no secret that Posada is not happy about sitting in Game 2, and early reports indicated that Burnett had asked manager Joe Girardi to make Molina his personal catcher. Regardless of who made the request, Molina will be catching Burnett while Posada watches from the bench.
