Renteria will have bone chips removed as part of the arthroscopic procedure. The 34-year-old vet ends the 2009 campaign with a .250 batting average over 124 games.

Renteria has been bothered by the injuries for some time now and believes that he can play through them down the stretch. He's out of the lineup for Tuesday's game, but it was a manager's decision and Bruce Bochy said that he will start Wednesday's game. He's slumping badly this month though, so if you've been hanging on to Renteria in fantasy leagues, now is the time to cut him loose.

Edgar Renteria picked a heck of a time to hit his fourth homer of the season on Sunday. His go ahead grand slam in the seventh inning gave the Giants a 9-5 win and a spot atop the National League Wild Card standings.
Our View:
Renteria was 3-for-4 and picked up five RBI in the contest, matching his season high. He had driven in just three runs all month before Sunday's heroic outburst.
