If Andruw Jones somehow manages to show up to White Sox spring training in shape, he could be an everyday outfielder next season, according to MLBlogs.com.

Our View:

If Ty Cobb came back to life, so could he. Neither is going to happen, and Jones' career death spiral should continue in earnest, especially away from hitting coach Rudy Jaramillo. If his past 311 games, spanning three seasons, he has hit .207.

November 25, 2009

The Chicago White Sox have signed outfielder Andruw Jones to a one-year deal worth $500,000, according to Digtal Sports Daily. The contract also includes incentives that could be worth up to $1 million.

Our View:

Jones had a bit of a resurgence last season with the Rangers hitting 17 homers, but he still only managed to hit .214. He will likely see some time at DH for the Sox next season, but he will have to show more than he did last year to warrant fantasy consideration.

September 8, 2009

Andruw Jones has been activated off the DL by the Rangers, according to ESPN. Jones missed time while recovering from a torn hamstring.

Our View:

This move has been planned for awhile, and Jones is expected to play in the team's doubleheader tonight. With Josh Hamilton out for another couple of days, expect Jones to be in the lineup regularly.

September 7, 2009

Andruw Jones is slated to come off the DL Tuesday, according to the Star-Telegram. He has been recovering from a torn hamstring.

Our View:

Jones is expected to return to the starting lineup immediately against the Indians and opposing lefty Aaron Laffey. They will play a doubleheader, as Monday's battle was postponed due to rain.

August 25, 2009

Andruw Jones has been placed on the 15-day DL with a torn hamstring, according to MLBblogs.com. Chris Davis was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City as the adjoining move.

Our View:

Jones holds a dismal .217 batting average, but launched 17 homers for fantasy owners. He needs 12 more homers for the 400th of his career, and his quest will be slowed while on the shelf.

July 29, 2009

Andruw Jones went 2-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored in tonight's 13-5 loss to the Tigers at Rangers Ballpark. He hit a pair of solo homers.

Our View:

Jones crushed 17 homers, with eight coming in July. He should remain a good source for power, if fantasy owners can deal with his poor .235 batting average.

July 9, 2009

Andruw Jones continued his 2009 resurgence by cracking three home runs on Wednesday night. All three were launched off struggling Angels' starter Ervin Santana. He finished the day 3-for-5 with four RBI.

Our View:

Jones went from one of the biggest fantasy busts in the last decade (not to mention one of the worst signings in history) to a productive bat in Texas in 2009. He now has 14 homers on the season and has an outside chance of hitting 30 this year. He's only hitting .250, but if you need power, he's a decent option.

July 4, 2009

Andruw Jones went 2-for-5 went a home run and four RBIs, his most since September 21, 2006, on Saturday, as the Rangers blew out the Rays 12-4.

Our View:

Jones now has ten home runs in 2009 after only having three in all of 2008. He is still batting a mediocre .245, and has just 27 RBIs, but the turnaround is notable nonetheless.

June 21, 2009

Andruw Jones went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer off Barry Zito in Sunday's 3-2 loss at San Francisco.

Our View:

Jones is enjoying a power surge, as he collected his third homer over his last seven games. He only hit two total homers in May.

June 14, 2009

Andruw Jones launched another homer on Sunday in the Rangers' 6-3 loss to the Dodgers. Jones was 2-for-4 on the day with a run scored and an RBI.

Our View:

Jones' homer was his second in as many days, and he now has seven on the year. His fantasy value is still fairly low, but if the power could show up consistently he could be worth a look.

June 13, 2009

Andruw Jones went 1-for-4 with a solo homer and recorded the Rangers' lone RBI in Saturday's 3-1 loss to the Dodgers at home.

Our View:

Jones collected his first homer of June, and his sixth of the season - with five coming at Rangers Ballpark.

May 30, 2009

Andruw Jones is penciled into tonight's lineup in left field against Oakland, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View:

Jones is hitting .387 with seven homers over 31 career at-bats against the Athletics, and is worth consideration for fantasy lineups, especially against opposing starter Brett Anderson (2-4, 4.98 ERA).

May 29, 2009

Andruw Jones went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer in the first game of Friday's doubleheader with the A's. The Rangers won the game 6-3.

Our View:

Jones doesn't play regularly, but has been surprisingly effective when he's in the lineup. He is hitting .303 with five homers and 14 RBI and has become an option in AL-only leagues.

May 22, 2009

Manager Ron Washington is giving Andruw Jones his first career start at first base in Friday's game in Houston, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View:

Jones has hit right-handers regularly this season and Washington apparently wanted his bat in the lineup more so than Chris Davis or Hank Blalock.

April 30, 2009

Andruw Jones started in left field and hit cleanup for the Rangers in Thursday's 4-2 loss to Oakland. He went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, two walks, and a strikeout.

Our View:

Jones is hitting .344/.523/.781 to start the season, but those numbers have fallen since Josh Hamilton's strained rib cage opened up regular playing time. We love the fact that he's drawing walks and showing some power, but he has struck out 10 times in 32 at bats indicating that his problems at the plate have not completely vanished.

April 28, 2009

The Dallas Morning News expects Andruw Jones to serve as the DH tonight against the Athletics at Rangers Ballpark.

Our View:

Jones holds a .391 average over 23 career at-bats against Oakland, with five homers and eight RBI. He is worth consideration if you have him on your roster.

April 25, 2009

Andruw Jones was 1-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk, and a strikeout in Saturday's 6-5 win over Baltimore.

Our View:

Jones has been used sparingly but effectively by the Rangers to start the season. He has appeared in only seven games (he started and hit fourth as the DH tonight) but has 10 runs, five RBI, five walks, four doubles, and two home runs to show for it. Due to his in-and-out status he's too risky to own right now. However, an injury could possibly open up an everyday job for him.

April 22, 2009

The Dallas Morning News is reporting that Andruw Jones left the game Wednesday night with an apparent leg injury. He was hurt legging out an infield single in the eighth inning.

Our View:

We will keep you posted on the severity of this injury. Jones has had an impressive start to the season in limited work, so this could potentially be very unfortunate for him.

April 13, 2009

Andruw Jones served as the DH and hit cleanup in the Rangers' 10-9 loss to the Orioles on Monday. He went 2-for-3 with a home run, two walks, a double, three RBI and two runs scored.

Our View:

The Rangers have five outfielders hitting pretty good to start the season. Jones' playing time does not figure to come with any consistency, but they may try to ride this hot streak. He has started the season 5-of-8.

April 9, 2009

Andruw Jones could make his season debut with the Rangers today against the Indians, according to the Star-Telegram.

Our View:

He is expected to bat fourth in the DH role, but Jones has a dismal .059 average over 17 career at-bats against Cleveland.

April 2, 2009

Andruw Jones has made the Rangers as a fifth outfielder, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Our View:

Jones could see time as a right-handed DH, and is worth consideration as a flier for AL-only leagues in case he earns more playing time in the outfield. He is 29 homers away from 400 for his career.

April 1, 2009

The Dallas Morning News reports that the Rangers do indeed plan to keep Andruw Jones on their major league roster. As a result they will try to trade or release Frank Catalanotto.

Our View:

Jones managed to strike out 76 times in 209 at-bats a season ago so the fact that any team wants him around is a tribute to him. The fact that Catalanotto is being sacraficed for his spot is too bad, as Jones figures to be nothing but the anchor at the end of the Rangers bench.

April 1, 2009

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that the Reds and Phillies have indicated some interest in Andruw Jones. Jones can opt out of his minor league contract with the Rangers at any time. Rangers manager Ron Washington would prefer to keep Jones, according to the report.

Our View:

The Rangers also have Marlon Byrd and Frank Catalanotto hoping to land roster spots as reserve outfielders, so it will be interesting to see how it plays out. The Rangers would likely be willing to move some hitters in exchange for help in the rotation or bullpen.

March 30, 2009

Andruw Jones played all nine innings in centerfield on Monday as the Rangers defeated the Giants 7-5. He finished the game 2-for-5 with a home run, a double, two runs scored, an RBI and a strikeout.

Our View:

Jones is hanging around and he has raised his spring batting average to .288. The Rangers figure to go with David Murphy, Josh Hamilton and Nelson Cruz in the outfield, but with Marlon Byrd and Jones looking for at-bats, a platoon situation could develop.

March 19, 2009

Andruw Jones has until Friday to decide whether or not to opt out of his contract with the Rangers, according to MLB.com. The team figures to send him to Triple-A if he decides to remain with them.

Our View:

He is hitting .258 this spring with a home run, two doubles, and two RBI. However, the Rangers already have a strong outfield with Josh Hamilton, David Murphy, Marlon Byrd, and Nelson Cruz. If Jones does opt out, he would probably have a difficult time finding another team interested in his bat. He had 76 strikeouts in 209 at-bats last season, while batting only .158.

March 18, 2009

Andruw Jones is unlikely to make the Rangers out of spring training, according to MLB.com.

Our View:

Jones does not have a shot to start, and Marlon Byrd is believed to be ahead of him for the No. 4 spot among outfielders. It is uncertain if Jones would report to Triple-A if he does not make the club.

March 13, 2009

Andruw Jones can opt out of his minor league deal with Texas if he isn't on the big league roster by Friday, March 20th, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View:

Jones was an unbelievably miserable signing for the Dodgers, but he appears to be in shape and has a fresh start in Texas. He'll have to beat out Frank Catalanotto for the job, but he has an outside chance of making the team. Even if Jones hits 10 homers this spring, he's still very avoidable.

March 10, 2009

Bill Plaschke, of the Los Angeles Times, writes that outfielder Andruw Jones, now with the Texas Rangers, apologized for his lackluster performance and obvious resistance to commitment while with the Dodgers. "I am sorry I didn't stand up to my reputation," Jones said. "I am sorry for what I put everyone through. I am sorry I did not make it work."

Our View:

In the first year of a $36 million contract with the Dodgers, Jones hit just three home runs with 14 RBI in 2008 while sporting around an extra 25 pounds that drew the ire of both team management and fans. Now with Texas, the considerably lighter Jones is earning just $500,000 as part of a minor-league deal, but he is still getting paid a full $22 million from Los Angeles.

March 9, 2009

Andruw Jones homered for the Rangers on Monday against the Dodgers in a Cactus League game.

Our View:

Jones is batting .280 so far this spring and is giving himself a decent shot to make the club. We don't know if he'll be able to get back to where he was, but weirder things have happened. Just look at Fernando Tatis.

February 27, 2009

Andruw Jones made his debut for the Rangers in their 10-4 loss to the Cubs on Friday, according to the AP. He struck out three times before "getting a gift single on a slow roller."

Our View:

Jones is signed to a minor-league deal, and more performances like this could get him released. The Rangers have depth in the outfield without him.

February 17, 2009

Andruw Jones has reported to spring training with the Rangers, according to the Star-Telegram. Jones has lost 20 pounds and noted that his right knee feels healthier and stronger following surgery last May. He added, "I think I might be in better shape than I was in 2005 (when he crushed 51 homers)."

Our View:

Michael Young believes Jones will make the opening day roster, and also boldly predicts him to have a monster year. If Jones does not win a top reserve role in the outfield, he could provide a right-handed DH option. As of now, Jones should be targeted as a flier for AL-only leagues.

February 16, 2009

Richard Durrett of the Dallas Morning News believes Andruw Jones will make the Rangers' opening day roster. The Rangers should start Josh Hamilton in center, Nelson Cruz in right with a platoon of Marlon Byrd and David Murphy in left. Jones would be competing with Frank Catalanotto for a reserve role in the outfield.

Our View:

Jones could spell Hamilton in center and provide a right-handed DH option if he makes the club. Jones is still viewed as a longshot though, and should only be targeted as a flier for AL-only leagues.

February 11, 2009

Joel Sherman of the New York Post has details of the contract Andruw Jones signed with the Rangers. Jones can make $200,000 if voted Comeback Player of the Year, $75,000 for 340 and then 380 plate appearances; $125,000 for 420, 460, 500, and 540 plate appearances; and $175,000 for 580 and 620 plate appearances.

Our View:

There are also incentives in the deal that are somewhat laughable considering his recent play - $100,000 for taking home the MVP award, $50,000 for being a World Series MVP or an All-Star, and $25,000 for winning the League Championship Series MVP, a Gold Glove or a Silver Slugger.

February 8, 2009

As expected, Andruw Jones has agreed to a minor league deal with the Rangers, according to MLB.com. The contract is worth $500,000 with a chance for him to earn $1 million in incentives if he reaches 620 plate appearances. Manager Ron Washington said, "He has certainly been a superstar for quite a few years. These past few years have been down for him, but I like the fact that he brings 10 Gold Gloves, he is a winner and he fits well into our clubhouse. He has something to prove. We have got him in camp now, we will see where he goes from here."

Our View:

The Rangers outfield will be crowded with David Murphy in left, Josh Hamilton in center and Nelson Cruz in right, with Marlon Byrd able to play all three as a reserve. Frank Catalanotto is still on the roster as well, meaning Jones will be hard-pressed to earn a starting gig, barring injuries.

February 8, 2009

The Rangers are going to sign Andruw Jones to a minor league deal worth $500,000, according to the NY Post. He will have a chance to rake in $1 million in incentives.

Our View:

The Rangers risk looks to be low, as they already have Josh Hamilton, David Murphy, Nelson Cruz, Frank Catalanotto and Marlon Byrd to rely on in their outfield. With that said, Jones' chances of earning a starting role seem slim.

February 7, 2009

Yahoo! Sports reports that outfielder Andruw Jones is close to signing a minor-league contract with the Texas Rangers.

Our View:

After scoffing at the Yankees' non-roster invite to Spring Training, Jones appears content with working his way onto the Rangers, where he will likely be responsible for spelling star outfielder Josh Hamilton, who admitted to wearing down last season.

February 6, 2009

The Rangers worked out Andruw Jones but do not see a spot for him in their crowded outfield right now, according to MLB.com.

Our View:

The Phillies and Mets are also believed to have some interest in Jones. Jones will be looking to bounce back from a nightmarish 2008 campaign in which he batted a dismal .158 with the Dodgers.

February 5, 2009

Andruw Jones has reportedly turned down a minor league deal with the Yankees, according to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated.

Our View:

The Yankees would not be a good fit for Jones, as their outfield is very crowded and their fans would not make his bid at a comeback easy. The Phillies, Mets and Rangers are also believed to be interested in Jones, with Texas seemingly the best fit.

February 4, 2009

Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated believes that the Rangers could be a fit for Andruw Jones.

Our View:

The Rangers certainly have one of the better hitter parks in the league and have plans on moving Josh Hamilton to center field, which would allow the sluggish Jones to play a corner outfield spot. Milton Bradley leaving for Chicago has also opened up the DH spot on the Texas roster, which could be another spot for Jones.

January 29, 2009

Andruw Jones returning to the Braves is doubtful, according to Atlanta's official site. Jones' agent Scott Boras said that his client has no interest in a minor league deal.

Our View:

The Braves have about $6-7 million left to spend on an outfielder. The Braves would also need to make room for Jones on the 40-man roster, so this move just doesn't make much sense for them.

January 24, 2009

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the Braves still have interest in signing outfielder Andruw Jones.

Our View:

The Braves likely wouldn't have to dish out a lot of cash for Jones, who still has over $25 million coming to him from the Dodgers, so they may take a gamble that returning to familiar surroundings would help him get back to what he once was.

January 22, 2009

The Atlanta Braves have invited 16 players to spring training but Andruw Jones was not among them. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Jones will probably not sign with anyone until late next week.

Our View:

It will be interesting to see if Jones can get into playing shape and get any team to bite on a player who hit .158 with three homers last season.

January 17, 2009

According to David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, as many as eight teams have expressed interest in outfielder Andruw Jones, who was released by the Dodgers Thursday. Jones' agent, Scott Boras, would not specify the names of those teams, but it is believed the Marlins and Braves are on the list. Jones has openly stated his wishes to return to Atlanta.

Our View:

The Braves have said they would sign Jones to a minor-league deal, but would not take the chance inking him to a major-league contract. The chatter surrounding Jones seems to have increased now that the Dodgers have agreed to pay the remaining amount of the fallen star's $32 million contract.

January 16, 2009

The Marlins are discussing Andruw Jones one day after he was officially given his release by the Dodgers, according to South Florida Sun-Sentinel. He could potentially be signed for the league minimum, $400,000.

Our View:

Jones could be worth the risk for the Marlins if he could get into decent shape. However, it's difficult to know if that's a possibility as that's why the Dodgers cut him in the first place.

January 15, 2009

The AP reports that the Dodgers officially released Andruw Jones on Thursday. He was due over $20 million dollars this season but the Dodgers will be allowed to pay that amount over six seasons if he signs with another team.

Our View:

Jones was a five-time All-Star with 10 straight Gold Gloves when he signed with L.A. last season. However, by the time he arrived he was well overweight, couldn't hit to save his life, and required knee surgery by May. He hit just .158 last season and struckout 76 times in 209 at-bats.

January 14, 2009

MLB.com reports that the Dodgers are likely to release outfielder Andruw Jones on Thursday. The Dodgers recently restructured his deal so that they can pay out the remaining $21.1 million of his salary over the next six years, should he play elsewhere in 2009.

Our View:

The Dodgers had held recent trade discussions, but they appear to be ready to cut-bait with the former All-Star. There figures to be a number of teams interested in the center fielder at the right price.

January 6, 2009

GM Walt Jocketty noted that the Reds had internal discussions regarding Andruw Jones, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Our View:

Jocketty needs to gather more information on Jones, and the GM is yet to talk to the Dodgers.

January 5, 2009

David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution writes that Dodgers outfielder Andruw Jones will be a free agent on Jan. 15, assuming he is not traded by then, which is a safe bet. Though agent Scott Boras has worked to alleviate the financial strain of Jones' contract, which figures to pay him only $5 million in 2009 rather than $21.1 million, teams are wary of signing the former All-Star, who went through a horrific season a year ago and is recovering from knee surgery.

Our View:

O'Brien suggests the Braves shouldn't mortgage even a shred of the organization's future to obtain Jones, but he does think signing him to a possible minor-league deal worth roughly $1 million would be the way to go.

January 4, 2009

Andruw Jones' career could be in jeopardy, according to Buster Olney of ESPN. He reports that the Mets aren't interested in acquiring Jones and doesn't believe that the Reds are a good fit.

Our View:

The Dodgers restructured Jones' contract so that he will only be owed $5 million for the 2009 season with the other $10 million over the five following years. Paying an overweight outfielder to strike out a lot isn't a priority for most teams, so it's difficult to see him getting moved unless it's in exchange for another bad contract.

January 3, 2009

Yahoo! Sports reporter Tim Brown speculates that Andruw Jones could land in Washington next season.

Our View:

The Nationals have been trying to get a big-name player to Washington, but have been ultimately rebuffed, in no small part because of how awful they are.

January 3, 2009

The Dodgers will either trade or release Andruw Jones, as he agreed to defer money on his contract, according to the L.A. Times. The move will take $12 million off the Dodgers' payroll this season.

Our View:

If the Dodgers cannot find any takers in a trade, the team will release him in spring training. It would seem hard to believe a team would be willing to trade for him when they could simply pick him up and pay just a small amount of money.

January 1, 2009

The Dodgers are working on a plan that would allow them to part ways with outfielder Andruw Jones, according to the Los Angeles Times. "We can't confirm that and right now we don't have a comment," GM Ned Colletti said.

Our View:

According to the report the team is trying to do something, likely a buy out, so that Jones remaining year on his contract would be cut down saving the club some $12 million. After hitting just .158 in 209 AB last year, a change of scenery could certainly be what Jones needs to resurrect his career.
