Derek Jeter was not only the catalyst for the Yankee offense on Wednesday, he was also the anchor and the engine. His 2-for-2 performance sparked New York to a 7-2 win and 1-0 division series lead over the Twins.

Our View:

Jeter hit a monstrous two-run homer in the third inning that tied the game at 2-2 and the Yankees never looked back after. The veteran shortstop finished the day 2-for-2, scored three runs and also worked a pair of walks. Hard to be more all-around than that.

September 8, 2009

Derek Jeter will serve as the Yankees' DH for Tuesday night's game against the Rays, according to the Twitter page of baseball writer Ed Price. Jerry Hairston will replace Jeter at short.

Our View:

Jeter has been struggling at the plate as he chases Lou Gehrig's hit record, so maybe the Yanks want to give him a game to focus solely on his hitting. He could also be getting a night off in the field to rest, but either way he is a safe fantasy play for tonight.

September 4, 2009

Derek Jeter received a scheduled day off on Friday night, according to MLB.com. Jeter was replaced at shortstop by Ramiro Pena.

August 12, 2009

Updating a previous report, the X-rays on the right foot of Yankees' shortstop Derek Jeter came back negative, according to the Twitter page of MLB.com writer Anthony DiComo.

August 12, 2009

Yankees' shortstop Derek Jeter left Wednesday's game after the second inning with a right foot contusion.

Our View:

Jeter served as the team's DH today, and apparently he enjoyed the new role. His average is at .319 for the season, and he is showing no signs of slowing down. The shortstop remains one of the better players in the game and one of the top options at the position in all fantasy leagues.

July 25, 2009

Derek Jeter is serving as the Yankees' DH for their Saturday afternoon game against the A's. Cody Ransom will take over at shortstop for Jeter today.

Our View:

There isn't anything wrong with Jeter, but the team is just giving him a day off on defense today without losing his bat in the order. He should be back at short tomorrow, and this won't have any fantasy impact today.

July 24, 2009

Our View:

The Yankee Captain is battling flu-like symptoms and will ride the pine for the second straight game. He has a nasty cough, but shouldn't be considered anything worse than day-to-day. Adjust your lineups accordingly and expect him to get back in the lineup soon.

Our View:

Girardi noticed a "hitch" in Jeter's step while rounding the bases and it didn't seem to improve as the game went on. Jeter swears he's fine, but don't be surprised if he gets occasional days off to keep the injury from intensifying. As of right now, he's good to go for today's game.

June 18, 2009

June 17, 2009

According to the Journal News, Derek Jeter is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game.

Our View:

The stiff ankle is still bothering the Yankee shortstop and he is considered day-to-day. He'll likely be a game time decision for the rest of the week, but Jeter is a gamer and won't take sitting out lightly. That bodes wells for fantasy owners as he'll do whatever it takes to get back in the lineup. Good thing too. He's putting together a fine fantasy campaign this season hitting .306 with nine homers, 30 RBI and 13 steals.

April 24, 2009

Derek Jeter had two hits for the Yankees on Friday, but the Yanks couldn't beat the Red Sox as they lost 5-4 in eleven innings. Jeter had a double, a run scored, and an RBI.

Our View:

Jeter continues to be big for the Yanks, but the team couldn't close out the hated Sox. Jeter has been a pleasant surprise this season offensively, so Jeter owners should be very happy with him.

April 22, 2009

Derek Jeter went 2-for-7 in Wednesday's marathon win against the A's. He had a home run, his fourth of the season, and drove in two. He is hitting .286 on the year.

ESPN.com is reporting that that game between the Yankees and the A's scheduled for Monday night has been postponed due to rain.

Our View:

No make-up date has been announced, but stay tuned for that information.

April 8, 2009

Derek Jeter was 2-for-4 on Wednesday and hit his first home run of the season in a losing effort as the Yankees fell to the Orioles 7-5.

Our View:

Jeter is not the fantasy stud he once was, but should still put up solid numbers across the board. Given how his star is on the decline, he might actually end up returning a nice value in '09 if you were able to roster him late.

April 1, 2009

The Yankees will open the season with a revised top of the batting order. Shortstop Derek Jeter is moving up to the leadoff spot, and outfielder Johnny Damon will fall to the No. 2 hole, the AP confirms.

Our View:

It seems a little odd to move a long-time leadoff hitter and a long-time No. 2 batter out of their usual spots, and we'd love to hear all the reasoning behind the switch. This news doesn't change our outlooks for Jeter or Damon. Heck, for all we know, Joe Girardi might change his mind one week into the season if the Yankees offense starts off slowly.

March 29, 2009

Derek Jeter exited Saturday's game with a bruised pinkie knuckle on his left hand, but is expected to return to the diamond Sunday, according to the New York Daily News. Skipper Joe Girardi said, "He is okay. I did not take him out because he was hurt, but I did not want to play him or Johnny Damon too much in the day game after a night game."

March 1, 2009

Derek Jeter went a perfect 3-for-3 from the dish Sunday afternoon as the Yankees lost a 13-11 slugfest to the Reds.

Our View:

As has been the case for what seems like each of the last four or five seasons, Jeter will have to guide his Yankees team through a sea of off-the-field controversy and scandal with his natural leadership.

February 24, 2009

Derek Jeter will play in the team's first exhibition game on Wednesday, according to the AP.

Our View:

Jeter had been held out of some drills by the Yankees due to a sore hamstring, but he started running on Tuesday and expects to go full bore on Wednesday.

Derek Jeter recently expressed a lot of excitement to the New York Daily News. "I'm probably as excited about this season as I've been about any season in a long time because we've made some great additions," the Captain of Obvious recently said.

Our View:

It's true, the Yankees were able to acquire some talent with their extra $450 million they spent this offseason. Jeter may benefit from the potentially stronger lineup. His numbers have declined over the past two years, but it's very conceivable he gets his runs total back over 100 this season. His 88 runs scored last season marked the first time in his career that he's received over 500 at-bats and registered less than 100 runs.

The city of New York will will repaid for the bonds. Even if it takes years for that to happen, the economic boom that it will create for the city in construction jobs as well as in-season positions for the two teams, should make the bonds worth it.

January 13, 2009

Yankees president Randy Levine was subpoenaed by New York City officials as they investigate the public funding used by the team to build their new stadium, according to the AP.

Our View:

The team used millions of dollars from the public to help build the stadium, and there have been question marks about it for quite a while, which the city hopes Levine will help answer.
