The year was 1922. The California Grizzly Bear became extinct, but a new type of bear emerged, the Chicago Bear. As one of two original charter members of the NFL, you could say the Monsters of the Midway have a long and storied tradition. However, in modern times, outside of their dominant playoff run and Super Bowl victory in 1985, the Bears have been rather toothless since that championship. Dating back the last twenty years, they've posted a middle-of-the-road record in that time. More recently, they've finished 21st or worse in offense in 12 of the past 16 seasons, and have not seen consistent top-ten offenses since the early to mid 80's. Making this seem even more of a distant memory, you might remember this as a time in history when we witnessed the birth of the Cabbage Patch dolls, and the premiere of The Cosby Show and New Coke.Associate Editor
