The Course

This may be one of the most recently-constructed tracks we will see on the PGA Tour this season. The Four Seasons Resort recently underwent massive and comprehensive redesign, formed by the hands of former PGA Tour champion D.A. Weibring along with architect Steve Wolfard of Golf Resources Group. The desire was simple; bring the PGA Tour to Dallas, and this course has done just that.

The original design was constructed in 1983 under the watchful guidance of both Byron Nelson and Ben Crenshaw, using indigenous oak and mesquite trees as the setting for one of the more colorful TPC designs.

However, the Weibring and Wolfard vision was just built in May of 2007. Thus the course is quite a bit different from previous seasons (the PGATour.com has yet to list hole specifications for this course, evidence of this course's lack of age).

Keep this in mind as we discuss potential favorites and fantasy implications throughout the week. We tend to rely rather heavily on the course-specific studies of the past, and this track comes at us in 2009 as a bit of a wild card.

The Field
The Byron Nelson has long held a place of intrigue on the PGA schedule, placed right smack dab in the middle of this stretch we endure between majors. It may not seem too tantalizing, but the mystique of the course and the proximity to those major tourneys allows many of the world's best to use this tourney as a target of choice.

Robert Allenby is one of many top names that will be competing this weekend.
The upper crust of the PGA will be well represented by the likes of Phil Mickelson, Robert Allenby, Anthony Kim, Fred Couples, Justin Leonard, Vijay Singh, Rory Sabbatini, Stuart Appleby, Chad Campbell, Ian Poulter, David Toms, Hunter Mahan, Davis Love III, Brian Gay, Mike Weir, and defending champion Adam Scott.

There will be plenty of young comers on the course as well, a list of rising talents that includes Webb Simpson, Danny Lee, Jeff Klauk, Chez Reavie, Johnson Wagner, Scott Piercy, Ryuji Imada, James Nitties, Dustin Johnson, Matt Kuchar, Jonathan Byrd, D.J. Trahan, Marc Turnesa, Ryan Moore, and Kevin Na.
